Ingenia's Sustainable Development Guidelines embed water thinking from the earliest design stages, ensuring future developments are designed to minimise consumption from the outset.
Requirements include Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), alternative water supply infrastructure, real-time monitoring, and highly efficient fixtures. New developments also incorporate retention basins and biofilters to manage stormwater runoff and quality. Rainwater harvesting and storage solutions are an active area of exploration.
Ingenia's climate exposure assessment identifies assets most vulnerable to water-related hazards including droughts, storms, and floods. Where exposure is high, deep-dive risk and resilience assessments may be conducted to understand individual asset vulnerability.
Ingenia’s water initiatives across operations include linen reuse programs, leak detection, and water-efficient fixtures in new homes to help manage rising water use as the business grows.
Portfolio metering continues to expand, improving data capture, with the Group monitoring water usage at the asset level and reporting aggregated data in its annual sustainability disclosures.
Looking ahead, Ingenia is focused on building a clearer picture of water use across all operational assets and developing targeted objectives to improve efficiency, supply resilience, and on-site water management.
